Credit Inciweb Governor Kate Brown Tuesday invoked the Emergency Conflagration Act in response to the Jack Fire that broke out in Douglas County Monday evening. The fire is estimated to be 900 acres in size in steep terrain and is located near the community of Dry Creek. The Douglas County Sheriff s Office has issued Level 3 evacuations, and the fire has temporarily closed Highway 138. The level 3 evacuations are for homes, recreation areas and businesses from mile post 43 on Highway 138 east to Eagle Rock Campground. Level 3 means go now. There s a level 2 be ready evacuation notice issued for everything east of Eagle Rock Campground to Soda Springs. ....
DOUGLAS COUNTY, Ore. Firefighters are actively working to put out a fire, that started in the Umpqua National Forest. It’s being called the Jack Fire, and right now it’s up to 1,000 acres and growing, with no containment. It started Monday night, around 30 miles east of Glide. The Douglas Forest Protective Association spotted it using smoke detection cameras. Multiple agencies are responding, from the ground and air. Governor Kate Brown Tuesday invoked the emergency conflagration act in response to the Jack Fire. That means more resources from other counties can assist in the efforts. “We had 9 engines, 2 hand crews, 3 water tenders, 3 heavy-lift helicopters a light helicopter, 3 air tankers 2 fixed wings were assigned,” said Steven Beri, a spokesperson for the Umpqua National Forest. ....

Following a correction to a faulty COVID-19 report that mistakenly placed three cases in Union County, the Oregon Health Authority decreased the countyâs risk level to âmoderate.â Kody Guentert, owner and operator of Brother Bear Cafe in downtown La Grande, said heâs jazzed for the drop. âIâm excited,â he said. âIâve been waiting a long time for it to happen â all the businesses Iâve talked to have.â It is not only the financial stability that excites Guentert but the prospect of having customers and regulars return to the cafe for food, drinks and good times. ....
