Australia Just Funded A YouTube Comedy About The Great Emu War

Remember that time Australia’s military, complete with machine guns, managed to lose to a bunch of emus? Well, that glorious defeat is being immortalised in a YouTube series.
The series was one of five projects to receive official Screen Australia funding, according to an announcement Wednesday morning. One of the projects includes 
Sunset Paradise, a new show from the makers of the 
Sunset Paradise has already aired online, gathering more than 1.27 million views at the time of writing. ....

Screen Australia announces $1.3m for 5 online originals

Screen Australia has announced $1.3 million for five online projects.
The announcement:
Screen Australia has announced $1.3 million of online production funding for five projects. Award-winning children’s series First Day will return for season 2, along with ReCancelled which follows on from director Luke Eve’s 2020 lockdown drama Cancelled.
The projects also include Sunset Paradise, a new series from the creators of YouTube hit Meta Runner; as well as animated children’s series Ginger & the Vegesaurs and comedy series The Emu War.
Screen Australia’s Senior Online Investment Manager Lee Naimo said, “We’re excited to support these projects which showcase engaging storytelling across a mix of genres including children’s, comedy, animation and a relationship drama. We are always looking for projects that have solid pathways to audience and we are very impressed by the ran ....

The Mail readers express anger after Barrow Island play park blaze


One fire engine from Barrow Fire Station was called out to the blaze on Monday night.
The duty manager said: We were called out to a small fire at the playpark.
The fire has been extinguished and there were no injuries suffered.
Sam Kate Butler said: We live round this area and it s so sad to see that somebody has done this, the poor children are absolutely devastated since we have only had the new park for a few year.
John Eccles said: We need to find those responsible.
Too many arson attacks lately.
There was one the other week by Vue and now this. It is mindless vandalism and could of put lives at risk with the toxic smoke. ....

In a 1955 magazine column, British journalist Henry Fairlie referred to those powerful individuals who actually run things, on and off stage, as “the establishment.” Fairlie’s usage suggested he had coined this term. When debunkers provided evidence to the contrary, Fairlie conceded their point. So who did say it first? Fairlie’s search for an answer led him to Boston’s Masonic Temple, where on Dec. 9, 1841, Ralph Waldo Emerson gave a lecture titled “The Conservative.” Emerson called the subject of his talk “an upholder of the establishment,” the earliest known use of that term in its contemporary sense. ....
