Conservatives maintain grip on Lincolnshire County Council, taking all but one seat in Sleaford and district

The ballot papers were counted today (Friday), with those in North Kesteven done at the OneNK leisure centre in North Hykeham.
The Conservative Party have won 54 of the 70 seats at the county council - down from 58 at the previous election in 2017, although they were down to 54 seats at the time of this election.
Liberal Democrats and Independents were the ones to benefit.

Five independent councillors were elected, four for Labour, three Liberal Democrats, three South Holland Independents, and one Lincolnshire Independent.

BRUSSELS – Export credit agencies (ECAs) – and the governments that oversee them – could be in violation of their international legal obligations if they do not take action to reduce their financing of fossil fuel-related activities imminently. That is the main conclusion of a new legal opinion published today, two days before ministers gather at the Petersberg Climate Dialogue. The opinion, which was commissioned by Oil Change International, for the first time lays out the international law obligations of ECAs that are responsible for tens of billions of dollars per year in support for fossil fuels.  ....

Despite the need to rapidly wind-down fossil fuels to avert the worst of the climate crisis, governments worldwide continue to prop up fossil fuel production with huge sums of public money. The biggest form of public support is provided through Export Credit Agencies (ECAs), which exist to support domestic industries in doing business overseas. ECAs are little known to the public and yet they provide almost fourteen times more finance for fossil fuels (USD 40 billion) compared to clean energy (USD 2.9 billion) every year.  ....

International Obligations Governing the Activities of Export Credit Agencies in Connection With the Continued Financing of Fossil Fuel-Related Projects and Activities


This legal opinion, commissioned by Oil Change International, for the first time lays out the international law obligations of Export credit agencies (ECAs) that are responsible for tens of billions of dollars per year in support for fossil fuels.
The main conclusion: ECAs – and the governments that oversee them – could be in violation of their international legal obligations if they do not take action to reduce their financing of fossil fuel-related activities imminently.
The legal opinion considers the international law framework that applies to ECAs which act on behalf of States or are regulated by them when operating as separate entities. Drawing primarily on customary international law, as well as on human rights, climate change agreements and OECD instruments, it concludes: ....
