Menahga School won’t seek COPS Grant
Considered about the financial commitment, the Menahga School Board declined to co-author a COPS Grant application with the city of Menahga.

They discussed the matter at their May 17 meeting.
Superintendent Kevin Wellen reported that Menahga Police Chief Adam Gunderson inquired about seeking funds for a school resource officer (SRO). It would be a financial commitment for the school district, Wellen said, at roughly 25 percent of the individual’s salary and benefits over four years. He estimated the annual cost to the district at $25,000 to $30,000.
SROs are a bit controversial, Wellen noted. If the district isn’t interested in an SRO, Gunderson plans to apply for a community police officer. ....

But now a partnership between the River Valley Area Agency on Aging and the Columbus Health Department is allowing shut-in seniors an opportunity to get the COVID-19 vaccine if they canât leave their home. ....

COLUMBUS, Ga. (WTVM) - Recently announced by Georgia Governor Brian Kemp, the Department of Public Health (DPH) will soon have some help getting the state’s most vulnerable population vaccinated through a new partnership with the Department of Human Services (DHS).
Local Area Agency on Aging (AAA), a DHS program, will help the health department by doing things like helping shut-in senior citizens register to receive the COVID-19 vaccine, and help offer transportation to and from the vaccination sites. ....
