Consider us for tourism bubble plan, say hoteliers


GEORGE TOWN: Penang should be given due consideration for the tourism bubble programme if tourism is to be revived in the country, says Malaysia Association of Hotels Penang Chapter chairman K. Raj Kumar .
He said in terms of restarting tourism, hoteliers were keen to see Penang as one of the spots to be considered for a tourism bubble.
“We heard of plans for Langkawi to be made one of the pilot areas for the tourism bubble programme and we hope Penang could be listed as well.
“Penang is also a tourist spot and I believe it is one of the top three tourism spots in the country. ....

GEORGE TOWN: Hotels in Penang are facing the possibility of a temporary or permanent closure in the next few weeks following the latest movement control order.
Malaysia Association of Hotels Penang chairman K. Raj Kumar said the situation looked extremely bleak for hoteliers as MCO 3.0 would last until June 7.
“It is too early to say which hotel would succumb to the impact but this could happen after the festive celebration, whether it’s temporary or permanent.
“The nationwide MCO took us by surprise as a lot of us are still sorting through many things. ....
