(TNN) - Lawton Public Schools is making some changes to their dress code. Elementary student’s will no longer have a modified dress code. Superintendent Kevin Hime says like the middle and high schools in the district students will be able to wear what they want as long as it falls under the schools guidelines. He believes this will be the best thing for the district. “Majority of our parents felt like it was a relief to them because they had trouble finding those clothes that fit that dress code and as their kids grew out of the clothes. Some kids have two or three sets of clothes they have to have a year because they grow so fast,” said Hime. ....

(TNN) - The first full school year during the pandemic is almost over in southwest Oklahoma. Elgin Public Schools Superintendent Nate Meraz said he’s proud of how his district handled themselves through the pandemic. “As of today, we have had 117 student cases of COVID-19. If you divide that out by our population, that’s five percent,” Meraz said. Heading into the 21-22 school year, Meraz said he’s ready to get back to normal. ....

(TNN) - Lawton Public Schools has sold all of its old school sites that have been on the market. Wilson and Swinney Elementary School were the last two sold. Superintendent Kevin Hime says both were in bad shape and if they ever wanted to put schools there again they would have to completely start over. 0:47 More than 100 superintendents and school boards around the state are concerned about a recent move by Oklahoma’s State Board of Education to equalize funding of charter and traditional public schools. Additionally, state lawmakers are exploring a measure to nullify the state board’s decision that would also provide some other funding for brick and mortar charter schools. Shawnee Public Schools passed a motion to explore joining litigation efforts against the State Board of Education Monday night. “Our board has interest in and moving forward in whatever manner to try to protect the taxpayer dollars that are paid into property taxes and the ad valorem building fund for our students,” Shawnee superintendent April Grace said. ....
