Proposal includes converting Coleman building into 1,200-student high school
Waxahachie Daily Light
The Waxahachie Independent School District board of trustees unanimously referred a $127 million bond issue to voters for the May 1 election during Monday night’s regular monthly meeting.
Superintendent Dr. Bonny Cain said a voter-approved bond issue will not necessitate a property tax increase.
“Our student enrollment just continues to grow,” Cain said. “We’ve been told we will have 1,000 extra students next year … When you’re looking at the houses that are selling and the houses that are being proposed, we need to be ready.”
The bond will provide more than 1,500 additional classroom seats to accommodate the district’s fast growth. The proposed projects include: ....

Waxahachie Daily Light
Schools in the Waxahachie Independent School District do not appear to be huge vectors of spread for the COVID-19 virus, the WISD board of trustees were informed during Monday night’s regular monthly meeting.

“Even though case numbers are on the rise right now, at a pretty alarming rate really, it’s not at school that they’re getting it,” Bousquet said. “All these hard-working teachers and support staff and administrators and board, all of your hard work is really paying off.” ....

A development agreement for the Montclair Heights development will be considered. The development consists of more than 188 acres, of which about 38 acres are in city limits and the remainder in the city’s extraterritorial jurisdiction.
