CLEVELAND, Ohio Mariners outfield prospect Jarred Kelenic and right-handed starting pitcher Logan Gilbert are set to make their major-league debuts Thursday when Seattle hosts the Cleveland Indians in the opener of a four-game weekend series at T-Mobile Park.
Typically a hotshot prospect like Kelenic or Gilbert making his debut against Cleveland wouldn’t necessarily move the needle, but tonight’s game seems a bit different.
In Kelenic, the centerpiece of Seattle GM Jerry DiPoto’s trade that sent Robinson Cano and Edwin Diaz to the Mets in December of 2018, Mariners fans have a highly-anticipated prospect they have been clamoring to see for three seasons. In Gilbert, the Mariners are looking for a jolt of energy for their beleaguered starting rotation, and hope that the 24-year-old righty out of Stet ....

Jarred Kelenic: Mariners to promote OF, make MLB debut Thursday

Mariners top prospect Jarred Kelenic is expected to make his MLB debut on Thursday, according to ESPN s Jeff Passan.
Kelenic, 21, will likely join Seattle s lineup as it hosts Cleveland at T-Mobile Park.
Kelenic is currently the No. 4 prospect in baseball, per the MLB.com prospect rankings. Fellow Seattle outfield prospect Julio Rodriguez is baseball s No. 5 prospect, according to MLB.com.
The timing of Kelenic s promotion to the majors came under controversy in February. Kelenic claimed the Mariners were manipulating his service time after a video was released featuring comments from former Mariners president and CEO Kevin Mather. In the video, Mather said Kelenic was being kept in the minors in order to delay his free agency. Mather also noted Seattle decided to avoid promoting Kelenic after he and the team failed to agree to a contract extension before the 2020 season. ....

The Mariners are expected to promote star outfield prospect
Jarred Kelenicon Thursday, Jeff Passan of ESPN reports. The plan is for Kelenic to be up for the beginning of the Mariners’ series against the Indians.
This is much-anticipated news for the Mariners and their fans, as the 21-year-old has done nothing but thrive in the minors since they acquired him from the Mets in the pre-2019
Robinson Cano blockbuster. The Mets used the sixth overall pick in the 2018 draft on Kelenic, who has since batted a superb .294/.370/.523 with 31 home runs in 771 minor league plate appearances.
