Oregon’s first-in-the-nation program to allow regulated, therapeutic use of psilocybin got underway Tuesday when Gov. Kate Brown announced the members of the Oregon Psilocybin Advisory Board.
The board will create the framework for the program outlined in Measure 109, which Oregon voters approved in November.
The board includes doctors, researchers, therapists and fungi experts, among others, according to a press release.
“Like many, I was initially skeptical when I first heard of Measure 109,” said Brown in the release. “But if we can help people suffering from PTSD, depression, trauma and addiction including veterans, cancer patients, and others supervised psilocybin therapy is a treatment worthy of further consideration.” ....

WHAT IT WOULD DO: HB 2980 would provide funding for three peer respite centers short-term, homelike facilities for people experiencing mental health crises. Currently, people suffering such crises often end up in jail or emergency rooms, neither of which are equipped to handle them. This bill proposes instead to create safe places where people who ve had mental health crises themselves i.e., peers would provide the services. There would be three centers: one in the Portland metro area, another in Southern Oregon, ....

The State’s Largest Provider of Community Mental Health and Addiction Treatment Services Seeks a Bailout Cascadia Behavioral Healthcare s budget crunch could not come at a worse time.

More than 18,000 Oregonians depend on Cascadia Behavioral Healthcare for treatment of serious mental illness and addiction, conditions that for many have been exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Portland nonprofit employs nearly 1,000 workers and provides services at 75 facilities, ranging from walk-in crisis centers to supportive housing for more than 700 clients, including at its new 52-unit Garlington Center apartments on Northeast Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. ....
