AUBURN More than 40 runner sled aficionados participated in the first Fastest Runner Sledder in the Valley competition Saturday night, a collaboration between Lost Valley and the New England Runner Sled Association.
According to Travis Dow, marketing director of Lost Valley, the collaboration came to fruition after Brian Trahan II of the New England Runner Sled Association and a three-time champion of the race, reached out to Lost Valley “about bringing the race from the backwoods where it started to a real venue.” ....

P.E.I. police say phone scams, fraud complaints on the rise


Both RCMP and Charlottetown police say they re seeing an increase in fraud and telephone scam complaints.

Both RCMP and Charlottetown police say they re seeing an increase in fraud and telephone scam complaints.
RCMP say on average they re getting one or two reports a day, while Charlottetown police describe it as a slight increase.
RCMP Staff-Sgt. Kevin Baillie said some cases involve a fraudster collecting benefits in someone else s name. ....

Special Meeting of Council to be held on February 5


The Mayor, Cr Kevin Bailey, has called a Special Meeting of the Council.
The Premier Mark McGowan has announced Bushfire Relief Payments for those severely impacted by the fires and suggested that the most efficient way to administer the grant funding is through each affected local government. The expenditure would then be recouped from the grant funding provided by the Department of the Premier and Cabinet.
The purpose of the Special Meeting is to discuss and resolve the facilitation of Bushfire Relief Payments by the City of Swan, commencing Monday, February 8, 2021.

© YouTube/Evening Standard (screen capture) An out-of-control wildfire burning north-east of the Australian west coast city of Perth has destroyed an estimated 30 homes and is threatening more, with many locals in the region told it is too late to leave. The 7,000-hectare blaze, which has a 47-mile perimeter, began on Monday and raged through the night near the town of Wooroloo, with the shires of Mundaring, Chittering, Northam, and the city of Swan impacted.
Swan mayor Kevin Bailey said more than 30 homes are believed to have been destroyed. We are just waiting for confirmation of the numbers but we re looking somewhere in the vicinity of 30-plus homes lost, Mr Bailey said. He said one firefighter had been treated for smoke inhalation.
