OHP report: 3 killed in U.S. 177 crash north of Asher

An Oklahoma Highway Patrol report shows a Shawnee man and two other unknown males died May 7 in a crash along U.S. 177, about file miles north of Asher in Pottawatomie County.
The crash occurred about 6:05 a.m. last Friday just north of Turkey Hill Road. Two injured passengers were airlifted from that scene to OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City.
The patrol reports James Chadwick Cravens, 55, Shawnee, died at the scene from arm, leg, and trunk injuries. Two other decedents are listed on the patrol s report as unknown. ....

South Dakota Landowner & Outfitter Alliance applauds new restrictions on "Open Fields Doctrine" | News


On March 29, the South Dakota Landowner & Outfitter Alliance thanked Governor Noem and legislative sponsors at the signing of HB 1140, a bill “to restrict the entry of conservation officers onto certain private land without permission”.
The bill was introduced by the House Ag and Natural Resources Committee, at the request of the governor. HB 1140 requires conservation officers (employed by the South Dakota Game, Fish, and Parks) to ask permission before entering private property.
“The Open Fields Doctrine has a long and controversial history in South Dakota, dating back decades. Until the law was changed this year, conservation officers could enter private property without landowners’ permission and with no reasonable suspicion or probable cause,” stated Reece Clarkson, SD Landowner & Outfitter Alliance Board Member. ....

Pheasants Forever program to honor South Dakota conservationist with preserving 440 acres in Day County

Pheasants Forever s investment into 440 acres of land in Day County allowed the land to moved into South Dakota Department of Game, Fish and Parks management. (Pheasants Forever photo)
WAUBAY – Pheasants Forever announced recently it will honor lifetime conservationist Tim Kessler by permanently conserving 440 acres in South Dakota.
The land was purchased and donated to the State of South Dakota and will be managed by the state’s Game, Fish and Parks department as the new Kessler Game Production Area.
It honors the former GF&P Commission Chairman and Pheasants Forever and Quail Forever National Board Chairman. The tract contains native prairie, wetlands, and marginal cropland that will be restored and managed for the benefit of upland wildlife and public access. It was created as part of Pheasants Forever s Build a Wildlife Area program. ....

GFP Now Accepts Tag Returns for All Limited Draw Big Game Seasons
PIERRE, S.D. – The South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks (GFP) is now accepting tag returns for all big game and limited draw seasons.
License holders not planning on hunting for any reason, must have their licenses postmarked before the beginning of the respective season based on specific dates provided by GFP. Hunters returning their tags will receive a full refund, no questions asked, and preference points for that season will be retained.
Any returned license will be posted on the GFP licensing website and available via the lottery process. Hunters applying for return tags will be able to put in a first and second choice for each season. Preference points will not be used during this process. In many cases, such as paddlefish, a current license holder for that season will not be eligible to apply for a return tag. ....
