Prince Albert’s Kyle Schneider is going to have a different vantage point for the La Ronge Ice Wolves next season.
Instead of gearing up to hop over the boards to take a shift, the 22-year-old will be behind the bench as he will serve as an assistant coach for the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League club.
“It’s going to feel a little bit weird at first I’m sure, but I’m really excited about the opportunity,” Schneider said. “It’s going to be great to see a bunch of familiar faces and I can’t wait to get things started.”
Ice Wolves announce hiring of new assistant coach
The La Ronge Ice Wolves have a new assistant coach and associative general manager.
The team announced Monday morning they had hired Kyle Schneider. Schneider, who is from Prince Albert, was a member of the Ice Wolves in 2020. He also had stints with the Melfort Mustangs and Selkirk Steelers in the Manitoba Junior Hockey League (MJHL). Schneider replaces Gaelan Patterson, who moved on to take a position in British Columbia.
“I am really excited to get the position with the La Ronge Ice Wolves and get to coach with an unreal coach like Kevin Kaminski, you know I really can’t thank him and the Ice Wolves organization enough for the opportunity,” he said.
