Standardized testing began this week for students in grades 3-8 and 11 in schools throughout Shasta County. Testing measures where students are at in their math, English and reading skills for their grade level. The U.S. Department of Education is requiring all schools to administer the state exams to students after the federal agency said it would not consider a waiver this year like in 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic. Schools that are doing in-person classes have to give their students the state test while schools that are distance learning or don t have reliable internet can create alternative tests, so long as they meet state standards and can be reported out to the public, said Heather Armelino, Enterprise School District assistant superintendent. ....
