VIDEO: Thanksgiving service for burn victim KerryAnn Collins underway

Family member of the late Kerry-Ann Collins has to be consoled as she views the body of the 25-year-old.
Kerry-Ann Collins, who was severely burned at her Kingston-based home and later died last month, is to be buried on Saturday.
A thanksgiving service is now underway at her home at Palm Court Block C on Spanish Town Road.

The 25-year-old Collins battled for almost three weeks at the Kingston Public Hospital (KPH) after receiving third-degree burns to most of her body on November 27 but lost the fight on Wednesday morning, December 9, last year.
Family members report that on November 27, Collins was getting ready to prepare a meal when the gas stove intended to use, exploded, engulfing her in flames, which had to be doused by her mother, Delcita Anderson, who also had to put out the fire caught other sections of the dwelling. ....

The family of Kerry-Ann Collins hopes that her death leads to priority being placed on the setting up of a unit to treat severe burns in Jamaica.
She died Wednesday after suffering third-degree burns while preparing a meal last month at her Kingston-based home. The 25-year-old had to seek assistance overseas because the facilities on the island were reportedly not able to help her due to the severity of her injuries.
It resulted in a desperate effort by her family to raise funds for airfare and medical expenses in the US but, unfortunately, Collins died just hours before she was due to leave the island for a hospital in Georgia. ....

Kerry Ann Collins, the 25-year-old Kingston woman who received severe burns at her home on November 28, succumbed to her injuries at hospital yesterday.
Her sister, Fellecia Collins, said the family received the devastating news after 8 a.m.

Third-degree burns
She had received third-degree burns to more than 80 per cent of her body on November 28 as she attempted to light her stove.
A two-night telethon on Facebook on the weekend had raised the US$15,500 needed for airfare. However, she was still in need of millions for the specialised treatment at a burn-care facility. ....
