HINDU TIMES: When the gods come to Dundee to make things right By David Pollock
Dundee playwright Jaimini Jethwa, whose latest work is Hindu Times.
“Hindu Times is about the Hindu gods coming to Dundee in the avatars of these typical, mental guys to save Earth,” says Dundonian playwright Jaimini Jethwa of her new play.
Hindu Times which will be available to hear this weekend as part of the Sound Stage series of new audio works, co-produced by Pitlochry Festival Theatre and Edinburgh’s Royal Lyceum.
“Earth is out of balance, and in Hindu mythology Vishnu comes to earth nine times because there’s an imbalance, so this is his tenth time,” Jethwa continues. “But when they get to Dundee, they get a bit distracted – they end up getting locked in a Spar shop at night and getting on it.

Body-swap comedies are big in the cinema. From the mother-daughter switch of Freaky Friday to the boy who finds himself an adult in Big, Hollywood loves to show what the world looks like through someone elseâs eyes.
Safe to say, however, that few such movies concern the transformation of Hindu gods into street-smart hedonists. And a dead cert that none of them takes place in Dundee.
This unlikely gap in the market is filled with some swagger by playwright Jaimini Jethwa in Hindu Times, this weekendâs instalment of Sound Stage, the audio drama collaboration between Pitlochry Festival theatre and Edinburghâs Royal Lyceum.

Distance Remaining is an ambitious collection of three inspiring theatrical stories from writer Stewart Melton.
The production has just embarked on a virtual tour of Scottish venues including The Byre Theatre in St Andrews, Dundee Rep Theatre and Perth Theatre, and audiences can view Distance Remaining from the comfort of their own home.
For Kally Lloyd-Jones, joint director of The Byre Theatre, the production is a welcome addition to the schedule at a difficult time for everyone involved in theatre.
