Four St Charles Nurses Honored For Outstanding Care

Four St. Charles Health System nurses have been honored with The DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses®, recognizing the outstanding, compassionate nursing care they provide patients and families every day: Bend: Caitlin Reid, Critical Care Madras: Yvonne Sullivan, ED Prineville: Kaitlynn Thomasson, Medical Services Redmond: Melodin Trammel, Main OR Nominated by patients, families and colleagues, the award recipients were chosen by a committee at St. Charles. The nurses who represent all four St. Charles hospitals in Bend, Redmond, Madras and Prineville were recognized with a ceremony on their respective units and presented with a certificate, a pin and a "healer's touch" sculpture by their hospital's chief nursing officer. The DAISY honorees will also receive ongoing benefits, such as special rates for tuition and ANCC certification. Despite a tough and unprecedented year in 2020, Tauranga students continued to excel in their academic ventures. More than 10,400 students entered for New Zealand Scholarship examinations in 2020, and of those who sat them, 2148 students were awarded one or more scholarships across the 36 subjects. New Zealand Scholarship assesses students on their ability to demonstrate high-level critical thinking, abstraction and generalisation. Tauranga Boys College senior school deputy principal Rob Gilbert said gaining New Zealand scholarship was the pinnacle of high school qualifications.

The New Yorker published its first issue in 1925, amid what the writer Adrienne Raphel has described as a nationwide “crossword craze.” But more than seventy years passed before the magazine introduced a crossword puzzle a British-style cryptic crossword, which was gone before the twenty-first century arrived. Two decades later, the Puzzles & Games Dept. was born online. On the fewoccasions when these newcrosswords ran in print, the response was warm. “It is a special treat to be able to use a pen,” Barbara, from Colorado, wrote in to tell us; “I really enjoy the hard copy version,” Lauryl, from Massachusetts, enthused.
