The amendments come following one Knox County fire department no longer being recognized by the state fire commission. Changes to ordinance 20160412-02, which adds regulations to subscription fees collected by Knox County volunteer fire departments, was passed unanimously by the court. Under the amendment, volunteer fire departments may only use subscription fees for building expenses, such as the purchase, maintenance, or expansion of a departmentâs building(s). The declaration comes after Mitchellâs office received official notification stating the Kentucky State Fire Commission no longer recognized the Stinking Creek Fire Department as being a fire department. Knox County Judge-Executive Mike Mitchell says that means their official tags are no good, CDL exemption to operate those trucks is no longer enforced and they’re no longer eligible for funding. This left the community of Stinking Creek without fire service. Judge-Executive Mitchell declared a local state of emergency due to public safety. Mitchell said there is an on-going investigation into how the fire department was handled. He said he cannot comment on further details. The local State of Emergency states the East Knox Volunteer Fire Department will pick up Stinking Creek’s 911 calls. By Jarrod Mills Staff Writer Mar 4, 2021 Mar 4, 2021 KNOX COUNTY - During last Wednesdayâs Knox County Fiscal Court meeting, Knox County Jailer Mary Hammons informed the court that the detention centerâs population had been up in the recent past, hovering around 300 inmates. Hammons said that currently there are 97 state inmates being housed in the Knox County Detention Center, 51 McCreary County inmates, and around 150 Knox County inmates. She also informed the court that an employee at the jail had recently tested positive for COVID-19, but that they hadnât worked since Friday. Hammons said there were currently two employees quarantining. ....
