The brother of homeowner, Sammie Mckenzie, was going by and saw smoke coming from the home at about 7:30 p.m., he said. He went in to get a woman and three children, ages 5, 6, and 7, out, he said. Fire destroys house in Freeman Township Sun Journal (Lewiston, ME) Feb. 1 FREEMAN TOWNSHIP A fire Sunday morning destroyed a two-story house and damaged a vehicle and camper at 779 Foster Hill Road, Strong Fire Chief Duayne Boyd said Monday. About 25 firefighters from six departments responded to the scene about 10:30 a.m. Boyd said a Kingfield firefighter was first on the scene and reported flames showing on the back wall. When Boyd arrived soon after, the house was engulfed in flames and firefighters could not enter, he said. It is a complete loss, Boyd said. Three walls that were standing were knocked down to ensure the fire was out. ....

Jay Fire Rescue photo JAY A couple escaped their rented farmhouse at 259 Franklin Road early Sunday, set ablaze by wind-driven flames from nearby burning woodsheds, Fire Rescue Chief Michael Booker said Monday. A cat and two guinea pigs were saved. The 2½-story house and two woodsheds were destroyed in the predawn blaze, he said. State fire investigator Kenneth MacMaster of the Office of the State Fire Marshal was on scene Monday morning. It is believed the cause is electrical, Booker said. The power line from the house to the barn may have caused a spark during the strong winds, he said. The barn, which is about 50 feet from the house, was not damaged. ....
