By City News Service May 26, 2021 SANTA ANA (CNS) - A prominent Orange County defense attorney is lashing out at an appellate court ruling that criticized him, another local attorney and the state Bar for their response to a serial rapist s attempts to appeal his convictions. The ruling penned by Associate Justice William W. Bedsworth of Division Three of the Fourth District Court of Appeal primarily scolds defense attorney Michael Molfetta, who was sued by the serial rapist, Sekayi Rudo White. The ruling upholds a lower court ruling finding in favor of Molfetta. White, now 43, represented himself in a civil lawsuit against Molfetta, who handled the defendant s motion for new trial and represented him at sentencing in June 2012, when he was handed a term of 112 years to life in prison for raping five women and molesting a sixth victim. ....
WCCB Charlotte s CW May 21, 2021 BURKE COUNTY, N.C. A 61-year-old Morganton man has been arrested after shooting his neighbor Thursday afternoon, according to Burke County deputies. Deputies and MEDIC responded to Pea Ridge Road around 2:40 p.m. after a report that someone had been shot by their neighbor. Upon arrival, the shooter, identified as Kenneth Reed, was detained and the 12-gauge shotgun was secured by officials. The victim was treated by first responders for a gunshot to their ankle and foot at the scene. According to a news release, the victim was transported to the local hospital for further treatment. ....

Craig, who has had the longest tenure of any recent Detroit police chief, said his retirement is effective June 1 and is voluntary. He was hired in 2013 by an emergency manager after the state assumed control of the financially broken city. Craig, who is Black and a native of the city, immediately set out to restore residents’ confidence in the Detroit Police Department, which had a history of civil rights abuses by officers against the city’s mostly Black population. ....
