Brexit sparks renewed calls for Scottish independence
Securing a second vote on secession is easier said than done, though. Before a legally watertight ballot can be sanctioned, the Scottish government must request a so-called Section 30 order from London, the legal apparatus that authorized Scotland s 2014 referendum.
This, in Sturgeon s mind, is the gold standard for securing indyref2 but Boris Johnson isn t so keen. Though UK-wide public opinion looks to be shifting on the question of a second vote, the British prime minister has repeatedly rejected calls for a rerun referendum, arguing that a full generation must first elapse.

California Democratic Party passes resolution calling for release of Armenian POWs
Calls for Divesting from, and Condemning, and Sanctioning Turkey and Azerbaijan As Part of its 2021 Top 13 Priorities
LOS ANGELES The California Democratic Party on Sunday adopted, as part of its top 13 priorities coming out of its 2021 state convention, a resolution condemning Turkey and Azerbaijan for the war crimes they committed over the course of 44 days and after their attack on the Republic of Artsakh and Armenia, beginning  on September 27, 2020.
The resolution, introduced by LACDP Elected Member and DSCC Member Elen Asatryan, also urges Congress and the Biden Administration to sanction Turkey and Azerbaijan and demand that Azerbaijani authorities immediately release all Armenian Prisoners of War and captured civilians. Furthermore, it also calls on the California Public Employees’ Retirement System and the State Teachers’ Retirement System to divest all public employee reti ....

Calls for Divesting from, Condemning, and Sanctioning Turkey and Azerbaijan.
LOS ANGELES LACDP Elected Member and DSCC Member Elen Asatryan has introduced a resolution, which will be considered at the California Democratic Convention taking place from April 29 through May 2, condemning Turkey and Azerbaijan for the war crimes they committed over the course of 44 days after their attack on the Republic of Artsakh and Armenia, which began on September 27, 2020.
The resolution also urges Congress and the Biden Administration to sanction Turkey and Azerbaijan and demand that Azerbaijani authorities immediately release all Armenian POWS and captured civilians. Furthermore, it also calls on the California Public Employees’ Retirement System and the State Teachers’ Retirement System to take socially responsible steps and divest all public employee retirement funds from investment vehicles issued by Turkey and Azerbaijan until Turkey recognizes the Armenian Genocide of 1915 � ....

As she launched her party’s manifesto on Thursday morning, Nicola Sturgeon repeatedly mentioned her aspiration for a “simple majority” of SNP members to be returned in May’s Holyrood election – this is the mandate she needs to ask Boris Johnson for the legal powers to hold a second independence referendum.
But the specific phrasing – “simple majority” – was notable since another notion was introduced to the Holyrood election campaign three weeks ago by the former first minister Alex Salmond. Launching his new political party, Alba, he claimed he could help secure a “supermajority” for independence in the next Scottish parliament, which would significantly weaken Westminster’s opposition to a second independence referendum. ....
