(MARSHALL JONES - MANAGING EDITOR / iNFOnews.ca) May 23, 2021 - 5:00 PM When a Glenrosa area corner store closed down earlier this spring, the frustration from area residents was palpable. “It actually was a bit surprising,” said Graham O’Leary, president of the Glenrosa Residents Association, reflecting on the outpouring of comments and complaints on social media. Last Mountain Market was the only store for the roughly 4,500 residents in the West Kelowna neighbourhood, selling candy and household staples for years out of a small rundown commercial space near Glenrosa Elementary school. The building was sold, the market was evicted and there went the only place many could walk to grab a litre of milk, or whatever was needed, without having to drive into town. Basically, it was a big part of the community.

The highlights include: Kamloops: 32 cases (from 33) Vernon: 19 cases (from 22) Penticton: 14 cases (from 15) South Okanagan: 5 cases (from 3) Summerland: 2 cases (from 4) Golden: 3 cases (from 12) Revelstoke: 0 cases (from 1) Cranbrook: 4 cases (from 7) Fernie: 11 cases (from 5) Salmon Arm: 4 cases (from 9) Kimberley, Enderby, Creston, Princeton and Kettle Valley are among the other areas to report zero cases.

According to the Geographic Distribution of COVID-19 by Local Health Area of Case Residence map updated Wednesday on the B.C. Centre of Disease Control website, COVID-19 cases in the Kootenay Boundary region continue to decrease. The update graphic, from May 9-15, 2021, shows new cases spiralling downward in most health districts. The Local Health Area of Case Residence map shows Fernie with the highest number of cases at 11. Castlegar with six has the next highest number of COVID-19 cases, followed by Nelson with five and Cranbrook and Trail with four.
