The women voters expect the new government to urgently address the issue of price rise. “The government has taken many steps for the welfare of women. But the main issues are price hike of essential commodities and LPG cylinders. People suffered a lot, especially in the post-Covid period, because of uncontrolled price rise of vegetables, potatoes and onions. However, the prices of essential commodities have gone down marginally. LPG cylinder prices were hiked four times since February. How do the poor survive?” asked Ramila Das, a 49-year-old resident of Gauhati East constituency. ....

Kokrajhar SP Rakesh Roushan on Monday told the media that police raided her residence after “receiving” information that a big crowd had gathered at her residence, violating the model code of conduct (MCC), where cash was allegedly distributed. “About 1,000 people were gathered at her residence. We asked the crowd to disperse as Section 144 CrPC was in force in the district. There was no cooperation from the side of BPF candidate Pramila Rani Brahma and her party people during our raid. They have misbehaved with us including one more IPS official. One PSO of the candidate and another person have been picked up for trying to prevent the police from discharging duty. A flash flood-hit area in Guwahati’s Chandmari on Sunday GUWAHATI: Flash floods in most parts of the city on Sunday night irked voters in the four constituencies here, which go to the polls on Tuesday in the third and final phase. The advent of the rainy season is dreaded here because of the frequent occurrence of flash floods, which leave large areas inundated disrupting regular activities. Most residents blamed the civic body, the Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC), for failing to tackle the flash floods that have been plaguing the city for decades. “The GMC did not undertake any de-siltation or dredging of channels and drains this year and the rains have arrived. Does it mean the situation will worsen this year?” asked Soneswar Kalita, a resident of Geetanagar area in the 53 No Gauhati East Constituency. ....
