RANKED: 22 drink drivers to hit the Gympie courts in 2020

Each fortnight, a range of traffic matters face Gympie Magistrates Court, with many involving drink driving.
These are all the Gympie region residents who drove while over the high alcohol limit of .15, from highest reading to lowest.
1. Ian Arthur Moore
The 64-year-old Gympie retiree was more than five times the limit, blowing .261 when he crashed his car in Channon Street just before Christmas in 2019.
He pleaded guilty in Gympie Magistrates Court in 2020, was fined $1200 and disqualified from driving for 14 months.
2. Peter Charles Gayton
The 49-year-0ld, pleaded guilty to driving under the influence of liquor after he blew .249 on Lawrence St in September. ....

The Buderim-based Dr Faint said the pandemic still continued to cause issues despite new cases at a minimum.
“In terms of impact on people, they basically had to put everything elective on hold, so all those disrupted services were delayed several months,” he said.
“Thankfully we have ramped them up quickly.
“There’s still a supply shortage too, and masks were at really low levels throughout the year.”
However, Dr Faint said it wasn’t all doom and gloom, and the pandemic did have a silver lining.
“The amazing turnaround of providing a new vaccine was quite extraordinary,” he said. ....

From drunken assaults to being found with drugs on the dancefloor, Gympie has had its fair share of night outs that have ended in disaster.
Here’s the most significant nine incidents that involved Gympie region locals and took place at pubs and clubs.
1. Gympie dad busted with cocaine, ecstasy in nightclub
A young Gympie dad busted with $300 of cocaine and ecstasy at a popular nightclub in Maroochydore was on parole for assault at the time, a Gympie court heard.
At 1am on March 21, security guards from The Post Office Bar on Ocean Street detained Aiden Kalem Dyett Dolling, 24, and approached police who were patrolling the safe night precinct. ....

The $8.8m debt spoiling Gympie's Christmas cheer


There was better news at Rainbow Beach, Inskip and Fraser Island where the amount owed dropped from $306,000 last year to $222,000.
Kilkivan and Mudlo residents also ended the year better off; the area’s SPER debt was down almost $40,000 and now sits at $141,000.
Goomeri, however, ended the year with $155,000 owing, $13,000 more than was owed last November.
There are more than 27,000 outstanding fines owed by the region’s residents.
The $8.8m debt was accumulated across 27,493 fines incurred by 3857 people.
The changes in amounts owed across the region do not necessarily mean debts were paid off as the figures are tied to postcodes and fluctuate as people move into and out of the region. ....

Police investigating alleged wounding at Cooloola Cove

POLICE investigations are continuing into an alleged wounding at Cooloola Cove at the weekend which left a man in hospital with slashes on his arm and hand.
The 34-year-old was injured during an alleged altercation between two groups of people at a private residence just before 5pm on Saturday.
The alleged incident happened at a private residence in the town on Saturday afternoon.
He was taken to Gympie Hospital with lacerations to his arm and hand before being transferred to the Sunshine Coast University Hospital.
Police said the two groups appeared to know each other.
No-one has been charged at this time. ....
