Despite Ballaghmor Class losing a front shoe at the seventh fence of the Kentucky Three-Day Event CCI5 -L cross-country course, as well as riding in a downpour, Great Britain’s Oliver Townend took over the event’s top spot.
“It’s a tough course already, and it’s very twisty and turny, especially with no front shoe, so I had to mind him a lot, and then go like a bat out of hell coming home,” Townend said about the 14-year-old gelding. “He’s just shown again what a tough, exceptionally top-class horse he is because with the shoe on, he could have been 10 seconds inside [the time].” ....

While the Land Rover Kentucky Three-Day Event presented by MARS Equestrian will look very different this year with spectators not allowed under the USEF COVID-19 Action Plan, fans will still be able to tune into every minute of action via the live stream and wall-to-wall coverage on the USEA’s website and social media. Michael Jung retires triple Kentucky and multiple medal-winning ride

Michael Jung has retired his triple Kentucky and multiple medal-winning mare FischerRocana FST after a stellar career.
The 16-year-old mare (Itunago XX x Carismo) is one of the world’s best event horses and will enjoy her retirement with her celebrity field companion, La Biosthetique-Sam FBW.
Michael has also indicated that motherhood is in the pipeline for his world team gold medal-winning ride.
He announced her retirement on Monday (12 April), adding she only went to a few small events in 2020 owing to the coronavirus pandemic, with the hope things would be back to normal this year.
“She enjoyed a great winter break with Sam in the paddock and when we realised it wouldn’t be much different this year with the big classics [being impacted], I decided to take her out of the sport,” he said. ....
