Farfarout planetoid most distant object ever found in our solar system

Farfarout almost didn’t seem real at first. It was very faint even through the lens of three telescopes from the original observations of the Subaru 8-meter telescope perched on the top of Maunakea in Hawaii, to the follow-ups with Gemini North and Magellan. Astronomer Chad Trujillo was part of the team that proved this not-quite-planet was for real.
“We had a strong suspicion that it was real just from the initial discovery images,” Trujillo told SYFY WIRE. “Although you can see there s a lot of noise in the images, if you look carefully, Farfarout is faint and looks a lot like some of the fainter background stars, except that it s moving between the images we observed. When we look at this motion, it seems to be at a speed and direction that is consistent with a real solar system object orbiting the Sun, which is not true of anything else in the images.” ....

Researchers have been studying the orbital evolution of the blue planet Neptune and the dynamical structure of the Kuiper belt that helped the gigantic planet survive the ‘bumpy childhood’. An unknown fifth planet may have “bumped” Neptune during its migration away from the sun four billion years ago, a new study has found. Neptune is known for surviving the gladiatorial period of planetary clashes. A planetary scientist at the Southwest Research Institute, David Nesvorny, has been conducting research into the wide radial spacing and orbital eccentricities of giant planets that went missing in the early Solar System. The modern solar system spins serenely, the planets locked in seemingly eternal circles around the sun. But it wasn’t always so. This tranquility appears to have emerged only after a gladiatorial period of planetary clashes one in which titans ricocheted off each other, perhaps ejecting at least one rival sibling from the cosmic arena altogether.
Researchers have spent years scouring the solar system for clues of how that comparatively chaotic epoch might have played out. In a modest cluster of far-off rocks, David Nesvorny, a planetary scientist at the Southwest Research Institute, has found a figurative blood spatter suggestive of one particular conflict: a tussle between Neptune and an unknown plan ....
