Cleveland County COVID-19 hotline sees more traffic

More people are seeking guidance to navigate the ins and outs of the pandemic from the county’s COVID-19 hotline.
Calls into Cleveland County’s COVID-19 hotline have almost tripled in the last month, according to Deputy Director of the Health Department DeShay Oliver.
“In December, we averaged approximately 130 calls per day to our COVID Helpline. In January, we have averaged approximately 380 calls per day with some days exceeding 500 calls,” Oliver wrote in an email to
The Star.
The increased call volume has brought people from multiple departments in the county to answer questions about anything from the data on COVID-19 to registering for the vaccine. On any given day, people from the Health Department, the County Manager’s Office, EMS, the LeGrand Center and the Cooperative Extension Office man the phone lines. ....

CLOVIS Curry County submitted a request for a new 4H-Cooperative Extension Office in its 2021 capital outlays to the state this year. The new facility would be constructed at the Curry County Fairgrounds and provide additional space and resour.

New extension agent joins Edgecombe office

Edgecombe Countyâs Cooperative Extension Office is once again fully staffed with permanent, full-time employees following the addition of a new extension agent specializing in agriculture and, eventually pesticide application.
Mason Shaw, a May Cum Laude graduate of N.C. State University with a bachelorâs degree in plant and soil sciences with a crop production concentration, joined the staff on Dec. 1.
For Shaw, once things got started, they happened in a bam-bam fashion.
âI interviewed on a Monday,â he said. âThursday was Thanksgiving and I came up to look for a place to live that Saturday.â
And the following Tuesday, he reported to the work. ....
