Driver who crashed into cemetery was impaired, say RCMP

It was fortunate there were no serious injuries in the North Shore crash, say RCMP.(CBC)
A man was arrested Monday after he allegedly drove his car into a cemetery on P.E.I. s North Shore while drunk, say police.
RCMP received a call about the crash at the Midgell Cemetery on Route 2 at 8:10 p.m. Officers found a small hatchback abandoned on the scene, and damage to a fence and headstones.
Seven headstones were damaged, including one from 1937 that was demolished.
Police said they located a 51-year-old man, whom they believe to be the driver, a short time later walking along the Confederation Trail toward St. Peters. He was taken to the Montague RCMP detachment where police said he provided two breath samples that showed him to be above the legal limit for alcohol. ....

A 51-year-old man is facing impaired driving charges after a car crashed into a cemetery in Midgell, P.E.I. on Monday night.
At 8:10 p.m. on May 10, emergency crews responded to a call that a car that had crashed into the Midgell Cemetery on Route #2.
Police say when they arrived, the male driver of the vehicle had left the scene on foot.
According to police, “it was evident that a small hatchback had crossed the roadway and careened through a six-inch post continuing to strike a few grave stones.”
Police say seven headstones were damaged, some beyond repair, including one that had been in near perfect condition since it was situated in 1937. ....

Abegweit First Nation gets land, money for corridor to connect to Hillsborough River

The federal government, province of P.E.I. and Abegweit First Nation are partnering to reconnect the Scotchfort community to the Hillsborough River.
The river was an essential transportation route and food source for previous generations of the Abegweit First Nation, but the Scotchfort community is now separated from the river by Route 2, a major highway that runs through the centre of the province.
