We feel that our mine plan that we are going to present is unique to the situation we re in, said Peter Doyle, head of Montem Resources, which hopes to build a new open-pit mine in southern Alberta on a previously worked deposit.
Riversdale Resources, which had its proposed Benga Mine denied last week by regulators, said in a statement it will study the decision to ensure it was fair. ....

Last week Canada’s Ministry of Environment and Climate Change announced that it will no longer issue new leases on thermal coal projects due to the impact that type of coal has on climate change.
“Burning thermal coal, the fuel that powered an industrial revolution in a previous century, is the single largest contributor to climate change and a major source of toxic pollution that harms human health,” the ministry said in a statement.
