Marine overcomes illness, brain surgery to compete in regional athletic trials CAMP LEJEUNE (WLOS) The regional Marine Corps trials aboard Camp Lejeune are held at Wounded Warrior Battalion-East, where wounded, ill, and injured marines and sailors are battling it out in a number of athletic events for a chance to compete in the department of defense warrior games. Corporal Duncan Rutherford was one of seven competitors in the rowing competition. “It’s an opportunity that I couldn’t pass up,” he said, “To me, it’s an opportunity to show the progress I’ve made in my own personal recovery as well as to represent the battalion and the detachment in their support of my recovery.“ ....
THE long-awaited White Paper reforms to the Mental Health Act (1983) contain some important proposals that begin to address the long-standing issues such as discrimination in who gets sectioned and the role of relatives but there are still some groups of patients who face particular challenges when sectioned who don’t feature in these measures at all. One such group are those who have both a mental illness and physical disability or health condition who find themselves sectioned but who face the same problems time and time again. This can have devastating consequences for their health and make service users justifiably nervous when handing over their care needs to psychiatric staff so they can concentrate on getting well. ....

Although surgery is the clear first option for addressing Cushing syndrome (CS), some drug therapies have shown they too can play a role. To date, however, studies on these agents have been fairly scattered, and no formal comparative effectiveness data exists. Scientific and regulatory developments, however, are driving new curiosity. A recent literature review, published in The Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism, analyzed studies covering five currently available adrenally-directed medical therapies: ketoconazole, metyrapone, osilodrostat, mitotane, and etomidate.
