Thousands of runners who braved the scorching heat early Saturday, July 24 for the Bix 7 race got a glimpse of the heart of the Hilltop Campus Village (HCV) in Davenport.
Though they likely did not stop then for a stirring jolt of coffee or admire some of the area’s striking architecture, Scott Tunnicliff and Molly
Molly Otting Carlson will start as new HCV executive director on Aug. 2.
Otting Carlson certainly hope they’ll be back soon to take in all the area has to offer.
Tunnicliff – an avuncular, dedicated 66-year-old economic development leader – recently retired as the first HCV director in its 12-year history. Carlson, a 52-year-old Davenport native, left her job as a vice president at Visit Quad Cities to take the reins of the nonprofit (and only Main Street Iowa organization in Scott County) as of Aug. 2. ....

Man Kayaking Long Mississippi River Will Be In Davenport


Even though Mental Health Awareness Month was back in May, that didn’t stop Ohio local Joe Soloman from doing what many people would deem impossible. He decided to kayak the entire length of the Mississippi River in hopes of raising awareness for a Cincinnati based charity organization called Adventure Crew which strives to
“See a future where all city teens experience the empowering and therapeutic effects of an outdoor adventure. Where fear is conquered, confidence is gained and peace of mind is discovered.”
This is truly an incredible and unimaginable feat to tackle, but Joe has spoken publicly about personal experiences regarding kayaking and mental health struggles that will help fuel the 2,350-mile journey. He describes having a terrible reaction to an anesthetic in 2012 due to a surgery that left him in a completely catatonic state, meaning he could not move, speak, or react to any kind of stimuli. MOLINE, Ill. As more people are getting vaccinated in the United States, focus is shifting.
The FDA is expected to grant emergency use authorization as soon as Monday.
If approved, the authorization would allow children between the ages of 12 and 15 to receive the Pfizer vaccine.
Local mother, Alison Garvey says she is all for the push.
“I think it s fantastic. I have friends that have been on lockdown since all this has happened with those little ones that they ve been locked down as well,” said Garvey. ....
