.-Miles McEnery Gallery is presenting an exhibition of recent works by Tom LaDuke, on view 24 June through 31 July 2021 at 525 West 22nd Street. The exhibition marks the culmination of work created over the last few years, including nine paintings and one sculpture, and is accompanied by a fully illustrated publication featuring an essay by Daniel Spaulding.
Tom LaDukes paintings are painstakingly constructed, offering multiple layers to absorb, with their own references and meanings. In his essay on the artist, Spaulding asserts, hard-to-describe forms occupy a spatial netherworld that is neither entirely here nor there: neither entirely on the flat of the canvas, nor entirely in the spatial grid of post-Renaissance pers ....

Beim Salsa-Club Lahr wird wieder getanzt - Lahr

Die Kurse werden bis auf weiteres auf den Donnerstagabend beschränkt, wobei Salsa-, Bachata- und Kizomba-Unterricht stattfindet. Auch die Showgruppe wird ihr Training wieder aufnehmen.
Während der Schließung des Clubs wurden zeitweise Onlinekurse angeboten. Es hat sich aber gezeigt, dass der Präsenzunterricht nicht ersetzt werden kann, teilt der Verein mit. Es fehlte das soziale Leben rund um die Kurse, die den Club ausmachen. Insbesondere die Unterhaltungen unter den Mitgliedern und das Pflegen der teils langjährigen Freundschaften kam viel zu kurz.
Umfangreiches Hygienekonzept
Das umfangreiche Hygienekonzept beinhaltet die 3G (getestet, geimpft, genesen), die Teilnehmer müssen sich zuvor anmelden. Die Kursplätze werden reduziert und sind somit begrenzt. Dazu kommt die Notwendigkeit, beim Betreten des Clubs Mund- und Nasenschutz zu tragen, der während des Tanzens abgenommen werden kann. ....

Nine minutes and 29 seconds, under normal circumstances, is easily forgettable. It’s the time we spend on routine activities such as taking a shower, doing the dishes, and walking to the station, our minds often elsewhere and not focusing on the task at hand. But nine minutes and 29 seconds was all it took for George Floyd, an unarmed Black man, to publicly lose his life at the hands of the police.
The injustice of those tragic nine minutes and 29 seconds would ignite a long overdue reckoning around racial justice, equity and inclusion all over the world, even at the height of a global pandemic. All of this was made possible because Darnella Frazier, who was a mere 17 years old at the time, had the foresight, composure and courage to film the horrific event unfolding.
