Washtenaw Commissioners Expected To Create Equity Director Position For Sheriff's Office

Last month, the County Committee of Ways and Means voted unanimously in favor of a resolution that moves to the Board of Commissioners for final approval tonight. The motion is to create the position of Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. This is an executive position in the Sheriff’s office and will have authority across the department to cultivate a culture of inclusivity, equity, fairness, and procedural justice that affects all members of the public.
County Commissioner Ricky Jefferson explains its impact.

JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT) - A Mississippi lawmaker wants to restructure the state’s Medicaid division in a way that would alter the authority over the billion-dollar pot of federal funds in the Magnolia State.
Rep. John Lamar (R-MS) introduced HB1013 to the Mississippi legislature this week.
Right now, the Division of Medicaid is in the Office of Governor Tate Reeves, but HB1013 ends that setup and shifts the power to a commission with an executive director. ....

(WXYZ) â We all know salt can help clear Michigan roads of snow and ice, but now state lawmakers want to see if beet juice can get the job done too.
There is currently a bill to help fund a Michigan Department of Transportation study looking into the benefits of beet juice.
âIn Michigan, we are one of the top states that produce sugar beets, said Senator Roger Victory of Michigan s 30th district.
These sugar beets are combined with salt, the sticky beet juice acting as an adhesive to help the salt stay on the roads instead of blowing away. ....
