Slimmed-down DISC proposal likely headed back to ballot

Slimmed-down DISC proposal likely headed back to ballot Shares The developers behind the Davis Innovation & Sustainability Campus, which voters turned down under a Measure J/R vote last fall, are back with a slimmed-down proposal they hope to place on the June 2022 ballot. Dubbed “DISC 2022,” the new project would feature 63 percent less office, research and development, and laboratory space and 460 residential units instead of the 850 contained in the original DISC plan. Total acreage of the new proposal is about half of the original plan, with only the southern portion of the plot east of Mace Boulevard and north of I-80 proposed for development.

Mace mess, housing and public safety top City Council's priorities list

Mace mess, housing and public safety top City Council’s priorities list 6 minute read The fix to the fix gets underway in August 2019 at Cowell and Mace boulevards. Owen Yancher/Enterprise file photo Support Local Journalism Shares Fixing the Mace mess, creating a sanctioned camping site for the homeless and shoring up the city’s Housing Trust Fund are among the priorities the City Council on Tuesday directed staff to focus on over the next six months. Those items are in addition to the city’s efforts to reimagine public safety by moving some duties out of the Davis Police Department as well as working with the county to create a Crisis Now model to respond to individuals in the midst of mental health or other crises. Two council subcommittees have been focused specifically on those efforts for several months and will continue to do so, city staff said.

We re not going anywhere | Community works to rebuild Solidarity Space in Davis after art removed Davis residents and the mayor went to the space shortly after Derek Chauvin s verdict was announced, only to find it had been cleared out. Author: Samantha Solomon (ABC10) Updated: 2:22 PM PDT April 21, 2021 DAVIS, Calif Central Park in Davis has been ever evolving with the creation of the Solidarity Space, and area full of art, design, and writing targeted toward addressing police violence against people of color.  The space began after the murder of George Floyd, and as the verdict came down declaring former police officer Derek Chauvin guilty, this was the obvious space for many in Davis to gather looking for healing and conversation.
