Versatile and sophisticated jazz guitarist Ron Jackson has performed, recorded and taught music in over 30 countries. With a varied career as a performer, composer and arranger, Highlights include shows and tours with artists such as Taj Mahal, Jimmy McGriff, Larry Coryell, Benny Golson, Oliver Lake, Russell Malone and Mulgrew Miller. Ron has been featured as a leader in jazz festivals all over the world, including the North Sea Jazz Festival, Edinburgh Jazz Festivals and Winter Jazzfest, NYC.
Born in the Philippines, lived in many states as a kid, then settled in Harvard, Massachusetts, west of Boston, Ron was initially influenced by rock guitar greats like Jimmy Page, before falling under the spell of jazz and following the style and career of jazz guitar luminaries like Pat Metheny and George Benson. ....

Vijay Iyer Trio, “UnEasy” (ECM)
While the New York jazz pianist and composer’s projects have had many iterations, this is his first album leading a trio since 2015’s forcefully enacted “Break Stuff.” Joined by drummer Tyshawn Sorey and Linda May Han Oh on bass, “UnEasy” sees three players at the top of their game. Their connectivity is uncanny, finding harmony in avant-garde improvisations at every turn. Oh and Storey especially shine on a version of Cole Porter’s “Night and Day,” and Iyer is at his finest on the dazzling keys of “Configurations.” ....

I can think of no better summation of our shared experience over the last year than A World Lost, the title of the piece that opens Maria Schneider s
Data Lords. A slow, foreboding dirge in an oblong time signature, it instantly sets a tone of somber contemplation. Revisiting it now, as an overture to the most critically acclaimed jazz album of 2020, I hear a chronicle of pained nostalgia mindful of the unbearable losses of life and livelihood, and the more slippery deprivations of place and custom, that marked the past year.
