Residents push back on new city of Austin homeless camp plan
City of Austin now has two possible locations for homeless camps

Dianna Grey, Austin s homeless strategy officer, and Kimberly McNeeley, Parks and Recreation Department director, in a memo stated that staff is actively pursuing steps to prepare both sites for the Austin City Council s consideration. After careful consideration and vetting of City-owned properties, staff has identified two sites as locations that meet most of the previously identified criteria for use as legally designated encampments, the memo said. Both properties are owned by the City of Austin, are being held for future creation of affordable housing and could be used temporarily until that development takes place.
Grey and McNeeley are preparing to provide a briefing about both sites at the City Council s work session scheduled for July 27.
