Japan Overall Bank Lending Slows To +4.8% On Year In April
That follows the downwardly revised 6.2 percent increase in March (originally 6.3 percent).
Excluding trusts, bank lending was up an annual 4.3 percent at 503.081 trillion yen - slowing from 5.9 percent in the previous month.
Lending from trusts jumped 8.3 percent on year to 76.494 trillion yen, down from 8.6 percent a month earlier.
Lending from foreign banks was up just 1.1 percent at 3.542 trillion yen, down from 8.5 percent in March.

KARACHI: It has been over 14 years since the killing of over 50 citizens in the May 12, 2007, violence in Karachi, yet no culprit has been brought to justice nor has any fact-finding commission concluded its inquiry into the deadly incidents of that day, one of the blackest in the judicial history of the country.

Z Energy shares jumped as the fuel retailer resumed dividend payments, gave an upbeat assessment of new industry legislation and predicted margins on fuel would recover from their current multi-year lows.
The Wellington-headquartered company, which also operates the Caltex brand, delivered a net profit after tax of $57 million for the 12 months to March 31, which it said was an increase of 165 per cent on the previous year. ....

Tougher action is urgently needed to cut off foreign currency flows to the Myanmar military regime, suggested local and foreign financial experts, who argued that severing its financial lifeline would hasten the collapse of military rule.
“The largest inflows of foreign currency to the military are from the oil and gas and mining sectors. We need to totally shut off the flow of foreign currency that is keeping the junta alive,” a local economist who asked not to be named told The Irrawaddy. ....

US Service Sector Continues Expansion In April, Pace Slows: Survey

The US service sector last month continued its recovery from the Covid-19 pandemic, according to an industry survey released Wednesday, but the pace slowed slightly as companies faced supply chain complications.
The Institute for Supply Management (ISM) said its service sector index dipped to 62.7 percent in April, below expectations and one percentage point lower than March.
But the index remained well above the 50-percent level indicating expansion.
The survey was good news for the sector, which was the hardest-hit by business restrictions that began in March 2020 to stop the spread of Covid-19. ....
