Finding answers to the pandemic and what it’s going to take to get wine sales back on a viable economic track, lies with the wine lovers. At last month’s Oregon Wine Symposium, Christian Miller, with Full Glass Research, said sales to core wine consumers have been up slightly during the pandemic … MILLER … “That’s good news for volume and dollars because core consumers still consume the majority of wine and they’re probably responsible for about, you know, over 90% of the wine sold at $20 and above, which is a key market for Oregon. The bad news is that it needs increased competition for a smaller base. So, that’s a difficulty.” ....

Photo: Fle Karachi University s Board of Studies of Commerce, on the request of college teachers, gave go ahead for a reduction in the syllabus for the upcoming BCom Annual Examinations 2020. The university, in a statement on Tuesday, said the meeting, which was held under the chairpersonship of the in-charge Department of Commerce KU Dr Zaeema Israr, decided that the syllabus has been shortened for the annual examinations 2020 only. The participants of the meeting were informed that KU has received applications from the teachers of the affiliated colleges in which they requested that the syllabus be reduced as the teaching process was affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. ....

The economic impact of the pandemic, wildfires, and other 2020 challenges were just one of the topics raised at last month’s Oregon Wine Symposium. Dr. Robert Elyer, of Economic Forensics and Analytics, says the vineyards saw a drop in production, but there are other factors to consider … EYLER … “Harvests were down. We’re looking to see, ultimately, how that effects the supply chain not only in Oregon, but more generally in the United States. And, we’re still very early. We know that some wineries got federal help and it’s hard to quantify that just yet because we don’t know how much that just simply filled the gap. We ultimately need economic recovery to really wake up those parts of the supply chain which are waiting to open back up again.” ....

In fact, in a LendingTree survey of more than a thousand Americans, half of them say a restaurant they loved has gone out of business in the past year. www.agrimarketing.com reports, besides mandated shutdowns that forced restaurants in some areas to stay closed for periods of time, they’re also feeling the changing consumer behaviors, including those who’ve been avoiding or cutting back on indoor dining. ....
