Family services offered share of £4m to support conflict resolution Local authorities are now able to bid for a share of a £3.87m funding pot to help family services resolve conflicts between parents. The Department for Work and Pension’s (DWP) Reducing Parental Conflict programme is working with local family services to help them spot parental conflict, provide initial support and refer parents to further interventions such as therapy. According to research published by the DWP, nearly nine in 10 councils believe the programme’s practitioner training is important to embedding support into their services and are positive about the programme’s potential to improve outcomes for children. ....

From: Reducing Parental Conflict programme There is strong evidence that conflict between parents – whether together or separated – can have a significant negative impact on children’s mental health and long-term life chances. Not all conflict is damaging, but where this is frequent, intense and poorly resolved it can harm children’s outcomes. RPC strategy. The fund was awarded to projects under 2 strands: Digital – to build more evidence of what works to support disadvantaged families to reduce conflict through digital routes. Support for Disadvantaged Families ( SDF) – to gather evidence of what works to support families experiencing particular disadvantages. The initial delivery period was for 12 months from 1 April 2019 to 31 March 2020. Read a summary of the 10 projects funded. Each project provided regular learning updates, quarterly written reports to Ecorys, and completed a final report to cover the whole 12-month delivery period. This informed the ‘Challenge Fund – Report from the first phase of delivery’, written by Ecorys and their partners. The report will be published early in 2021. ....
