Vice-PresidentMrs Inonge Mutukwa Wina has announced her decision not to be considered as a running mate to President Edgar Lungu for the August General Election. Mrs Wina disclosed that age was catching up with her and she felt satisfied with her contribution to the development of Zambia hence the need to pass on the button. She said she was grateful to President Lungu for having given her the opportunity to serve the Zambian people as first female vice president adding that she had already informed the Head of State about her decision. “It’s now time to pass on the button. I have reached a stage in my political journey where I need to take a different role that will see a new generation of leaders take charge of the affairs of the country especially now that stability has been restored by President Edgar Lungu,” Mrs Wina said. ....
Turkish charity gives relief hampers to 1,000 Zambian families Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency assisting Zambia in fields of health, agriculture, tourism 2021-05-11 15:46:01 LUSAKA, Zambia Turkey s state-run aid agency Tuesday supplied relief hampers for 1,000 families Zambian families through the country s Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit (DMMU). The Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA) has been assisting Zambia since 2000 in the fields of health, agriculture and tourism. Turkish Ambassador to Zambia Istem Cırcıroglu presented the hampers in the capital Lusaka at a ceremony attended by Zambian Minister Olipah Phiri Mwansa. Circiroglu reaffirmed TIKA s aim of contributing to poverty eradication and sustainable development in partner countries. ....
Zambia: Mumbwa Dam Spillage Final Report, DREF Operation n° MDRZM013 Format Description of the disaster Heavy rainfall that occurred from 22 to 26 December 2020 led to bursting of Kandesha dam in Mumbwa district of Central Province of Zambia, affecting 500 households in four communities namely, Munengo, Kambobe, Katala, and Chiloweni communities of Mapona ward. Some 169 households were also displaced out of the affected. The Government, through the Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit (DMMU), created a camp called Kandesha and supplied 50 tents to accommodate the displaced households. Currently, there are 46 families at the old camp, while other families initially displaced are living with their relatives or renting somewhere else waiting for the end of the rainy season. In response, Zambia Red Cross Society (ZRCS) launched three months DREF operation respond to the needs of the affected population of which almost all the planned activities have been implemented. ....
