Palm Coast City Council deadlocks on county's proposed sales tax

A divided Palm Coast City Council did not vote on a resolution to support a Flagler County half-cent sales tax, once again demonstrating the split which has deadlocked members on several issues.
The resolution to support the half-cent sales tax to pay for public safety-related expenses failed because no one seconded a motion to support it during Tuesday’s meeting.
People shopping in Flagler County currently pay a 7% sales tax, which includes 6% from the state, 0.5% from the county and 0.5% from the School Board.
“The County is the only one in the state that’s eligible for the small county surtax that is not levying the full 1%,” according to an email from E. John Brower, the county’s financial services director. ....

On May 3, Flagler County Sheriff’s Office deputies observed a silver sedan traveling on State Road 100 West in Bunnell at a speed of 95 miles per hour.
Serone Bell
Deputies initiated a traffic stop and observed multiple baggies being thrown out of the passenger window before the car came to a stop. The deputy collected information from the driver and passenger, later identified as Serone Bell.
While attempting to verify Bell’s identity, deputies observed Bell point a rifle at the driver and force him out of the vehicle. Bell then climbed into the driver’s seat and took off toward south Bunnell. Flagler County Fireflight was called for assistance. ....

(© FlaglerLive)The Flagler County Sheriff’s Office opened its much-anticipated, three-year delayed Palm Coast Precinct this morning at 14 Palm Harbor Village Way, in a building that’s had various incarnations as a bank, a soccer academy partly run by a now-convicted child molestor, and a funeral home.
For the Sheriff’s Office, it’s the first time in 40 years of policing Palm Coast that it can finally call a precinct there its own. Sheriff Rick Staly called it “a giant leap forward for the sheriff’s office for the last 40 years.” ....

FCSO Chases Then Captures Armed Felon In Daytona Beach

Bunnell, FL – When a Flagler County Sheriff’s Office (FCSO) deputy initiated a traffic stop on a speeding vehicle yesterday (May 3) they observed multiple baggies being thrown out of the passenger window before the car came to a stop. While getting information from the driver and passenger, later identified as 30-year-old Serone Bell, the deputy saw Bell point a rifle at the driver and force him out of the vehicle. Bell climbed into the driver’s seat and the chase was on. FCSO deputies and Bunnell police officers pursued him and observed the vehicle tailgating, driving erratically, and weaving in and out of traffic resulting in a crash with a parked car. Sheriff Rick Staly and Chief of Staff Mark Strobridge spotted Bell traveling South on US1 and attempted to deploy StopSticks at Belle Terre and US 1 but the deployment could not be safely done. They joined the pursuit, following Bell on southbound I-95, then LPGA Boulevard eastbound, and on to Willi ....
