It was an excellent first Saturday in 2021 for the Big Blue Nation. First, Mark Stoops and his Wildcats won their third consecutive bowl game over No. 23 NC State. The football Wildcats ended their 2020 season on a high note with a win over South Carolina and a bowl win was a bitter sweet moment as the program watched several members of the team play their last snap in Kentucky blue.
Then later Saturday afternoon, an in-state hero appears to have saved the Wildcats basketball season just eight games into the season. Dontaie Allen erupted for 20 of his 23 points in the second half and both overtimes as John Calipari’s Wildcats edged out Mississippi State in their first game of SEC play. ....

CINCINNATI Bengals running backs coach Jemal Singleton is planning on leaving Cincinnati at the conclusion of the season.
Kentucky Wildcats head coach Mark Stoops is planning on hiring Singleton to be the new running backs coach at the University of Kentucky according to FootballScoop.
A deal is not finalized, but Singleton s contract with the Bengals is set to expire following Sunday s game against the Ravens. 
Singleton has spent the last three seasons in the NFL. He joined Zac Taylor s staff in 2019, was with the Raiders for one year (2018) and spent two seasons in Indianapolis with the Colts. 
Singleton has spent most of his coaching career in the college ranks with stops at Air Force, Oklahoma State and Arkansas. ....

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. A.J. Rose ran for a career-high 148 yards, Chris Rodriguez added 84 yards and two scores and Kentucky held off No. 24 North Carolina State 23-21 in a chippy TaxSlayer Gator Bowl on Saturday.
Christopher Dunn missed two field goals for the Wolfpack (8-4), who trailed 16-14 late when Bailey Hockman threw his third interception of the game. Rodriguez scored on the ensuing play, going nearly untouched for 26 yards. ....

“It was extremely emotional, even walking into the locker room we were saying, ‘That was for (Oats), that was for Schlarman,’” said linebacker Jamin Davis, who finished with 13 tackles and an interception.
“It’s definitely something to show to the younger guys that we just keep playing through all the adversity, whatever’s going on around us, all the outside noise,” Davis added. “Just block it out. … We’ve got to keep going regardless.”
