Chairman Mark Lizarraga as well as Galen Alumni gathered in the outskirts of Roaring Creek Village for you guessed it – golfing. Feb 22, 2021 $2.5M in Profits for B.T.L. in 2020 is a Paltry Sum A new board of directors for Belize Telemedia Limited was constituted in December of last year with former business senator Mark Lizarraga at its helm. Over the weekend, the telecoms company hosted a virtual gathering of its shareholders where an annual report was presented on its finances. The numbers are grim, to say the least. Despite massive investments in improving services, B.T.L. only realized a meager profit of two and a half million dollars this fiscal year. It’s far from good news for local investors who presumably expected more in dividends. According to Chairman Lizarraga, the company is also facing harsh economic headwinds with the COVID-19 pandemic. Dec 17, 2020 Channel 7 Ditches Net Vasquez Former B.T.L. Chairman Nestor Vasquez has also parted ways with his family business, Tropical Vision Limited, Channel Seven after thirty-nine years of ownership. The move comes in the wake of a scandal at Belize Telemedia Limited where Vasquez racked up a bill of almost a million dollars in personal expenses on the company’s corporate credit card. In a released issued by the company earlier today, it stated, “Tropical Vision, Channel Seven is making a strategic pivot, with a change in leadership and parting of ways with its founder and former owner, Mr. Nestor A. Vasquez. Channel Seven started operating in 1981 as the first broadcast television station in Belize and evolved over the past four decades as a family-owned enterprise. Dec 11, 2020 Senators Sit for Inaugural Senate Meeting Preceding the inaugural Sitting of the House of Representatives, an introductory Sitting of the Senate was held inside the chambers of the National Assembly. The Government appointed six new senators and they are Eamon Courtenay, Christopher Coye, Doctor Isabel Bennett, Bevin Cal, Collet Montejo and Erica Jang. The Opposition, United Democratic Party has appointed Michael Peyrefitte as Lead Opposition Senator who will be supported by Sheena Pitts and Aldo Salazar. The N.G.O. community voted to keep Osmany Salas in the Senate and so did the unions with Elena Smith. The Churches have chosen Bishop Moses Benguche to replace Pastor Ashley Rocke and Kevin Herrera replaces Mark Lizarraga as the Senator for the Private Sector. The President of the Senate is now Carolyn Trench-Sandiford who was warmly received by the senators. ....
