Local hospitals earn top grade in patient safety from Leapfrog Group

Employees at Sierra Vista (Left) and Twin Cities (Right) celebrate the achievement. – Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center in San Luis Obispo and Twin Cities Community Hospital in Templeton both received an “A” grade in the Spring 2021 Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade, a national distinction recognizing Tenet Health Central Coast’s achievements protecting patients from errors, injuries, accidents, and infections. The Leapfrog Group is an independent national watchdog organization committed to health care quality and safety. Of particular note is that Sierra Vista has achieved consecutive A’s every reporting period since the ratings first came out in 2012 – only three hospitals in California, and 27 nationwide, have achieved straight A’s since 2012.

Twin Cities awarded for advanced certification as a primary stroke center

–The Joint Commission has awarded a certificate of distinction to Twin Cities Community Hospital for advanced certification as a primary stroke center. To achieve this distinction, Twin Cities underwent a rigorous, on-site review where reviewers evaluated compliance with related certification standards. The standards are developed in consultation with health care experts and providers, measurement experts, and patients. The reviewers also conducted onsite observations and interviews. “The distinction recognizes Twin Cities Community Hospital’s quality, caring, and commitment of staff and physicians,” said Mark Lisa, CEO of Tenet Health Central Coast. “During a stroke emergency, about two million brain cells die per minute and this certification signals to the community that they are in expert, caring hands at Twin Cities in their time of critical need. We are extremely proud to have Advanced Certification as a Primary Stroke Center.”
