2 Alabama prison officers indicted on federal charges in beating of inmate

Two state prison employees have been indicted in the assault of an inmate and for false statements made to investigators after the assault.
The U.S. Department of Justice on Wednesday announced the five-count indictment again Staton Correctional Facility Sgt. Devlon Williams, 34, and correctional Officer Larry Managan Jr., 39.
Few details have been released about the incident, including when it happened. According to the DOJ release, the officers used their feet and a collapsible baton to assault the unnamed inmate. Additionally, authorities said, Managan walked on the inmate. ....

A public inquiry is needed to investigate the process that led the Trudeau government to outsource the $500-million Canada Student Service Grant (CSSG) to the WE Charity Foundation, a lawyer specializing in charities says. 
The comments were made at a hearing of the Commons ethics committee on Friday, the last meeting to study possible conflicts of interest and improper lobbying connected to pandemic spending before the House rises for six weeks. ....
