The state Department of Health and Human Services tallied 319 new coronavirus cases for the day, with the total since the pandemic began more than 308,000. The number of Nevadans who have died from the virus remained at 5,332.

Doctor: Growing evidence COVID vaccines reduce transmission, infections

He said that evidence is coming through studies in the U.S., the U.K., Israel and Denmark.
“They’re not only preventing illness but also preventing spreading,” he said during the Monday COVID-19 update press conference. “For us to put an end to this and move on, we need to prevent it from spreading.”
Riddle said all three vaccines now available in the U.S. are highly effective well over 90 percent in preventing serious illness and hospitalization from the virus. Riddle pointed out that this isn’t test data but real-world data.
He said hospitalizations for those people who have been vaccinated “are almost zero.” ....

Biden's infrastructure tax hike worries some Democrats about impact on wealthy voters | Nation/World

WASHINGTON — Can President Joe Biden keep the loyalty of the wealthy, suburban Americans who helped put him in the White House — many of them former Republicans — even when he pushes for tax increases to fund priorities such as infrastructure?
That’s the challenge ahead for the Biden administration, a week after the president detailed a new $2 trillion infrastructure plan he proposed to pay for primarily by raising the corporate tax rate to 28% from 21%.
With former President Donald Trump out of office, some Democrats concede that tax and spend policies could make them begin worrying about their own pocketbooks and reshuffle their political priorities. ....

Officials: Some vaccination slots going unused in Vegas area

“We’ve had challenges with doses on shelves or appointments not being filled and those sorts of things,” Cage said, casting problems reported by the Las Vegas Review-Journal as growing pains in a huge vaccination effort.
Cage said the statewide coronavirus playbook is being shaped with local health districts, elected leaders and emergency managers according to the varied economies and workforces in the north, south and rural areas.
“Everyone’s goal is the same,” Cage said. “To get as many Nevadans vaccinated as possible.”
Public vaccine sites at ashman Center conference hall near downtown Las Vegas and at the Las Vegas Convention Center near the Strip can each deliver up to 4,000 doses per day. ....
