Brent Council promotes Covid-19 vaccine among BAME groups

Community leaders and health professionals in Brent have called for wider information around the Covid-19 vaccine to be made available to members of Black, Asian and minority ethnic (BAME) groups.
At a special meeting held by Brent Council yesterday (Tuesday, February 9), several speakers highlighted the barriers facing these communities, such as misinformation and reduced access.
They noted the importance of providing evidence around the vaccine in a way that is “culturally sensitive” to all groups, including in a variety of languages.
This is particularly necessary in a region like Brent – the second-most diverse borough in the country, where two-thirds of the population are from BAME communities. ....

Brent community groups urge public to take Covid-19 vaccine

Community leaders in Brent have urged people to “seriously consider” taking the Covid-19 vaccine when invited as they sought to dispel “fake news” around the procedure.
Speaking at a webinar hosted by Brent Council last night (Monday, January 26), medical professionals were joined by religious leaders and community activists to address public concerns around the vaccine.
Dr John Licorish, deputy director of Public Health Brent, said he would advise everyone to attend any proposed vaccine appointment where they will have the chance to ask questions about the jab.
He acknowledged the current vaccines are not 100 per cent effective and do not stop people from catching or spreading Covid-19, but argued it is a “major step” in combating the virus. ....
