Hyndburn: Altham West residents protest against 5G masts


RESIDENTS have taken to the streets to protest against the building of 5G masts in their community.
Between 30 and 40 people took to the streets of Altham West on Sunday May 16 to make their feelings known, with Council leader Miles Parkinson, deputy leader Paul Cox and Accrington North Councillor Lorraine Cox amongst them.
They were organised by the recently formed Accrington Residents Anti-5G Committee which has said that they have been plagued by masts, built by IX Wireless, going up across their towns, in some cases right outside their homes, without their permission,
Speaking on behalf of the group, Jo Read said: As you see a lot of us are elderly and many do not own a smart phone let alone a computer. ....

Burnley's new Mayor greets the 'challenge' of coronavirus

THE Darwen-born new Mayor of Burnley is expecting a challenging year as First Citizen because of coronavirus.
Cllr Mark Townsend,who stepped down as leader of the Labour group on his appointment during the council s annual meeting at the Mechanics Theatre on Wednesday, attended Towneley High and Burnley Grammar schools before taking a job as an apprentice mechanic at Hapton Valley Colliery.
His wife Kerry will be his Mayoress and the couple have a daughter Rosie.
Cll Townsend has chosen Safenet (keeping women and children safe from domestic abuse); the Barry Kilby Prostate Cancer Appeal; and Derian House (providing respite and end-of-life care for children and young people) as his Mayoral charities. ....

RESIDENTS have formed a group to oppose 5G masts that have been built in their communities.
Accrington’s Resident Anti-5G Committee said some masts have been built right outside people’s homes while other residents in Burnley leads going through their gardens without their consultation.
The Hyndburn group, made up of Susan Howarth, vice-chair Stacey Luckhurst, committee members Tony Chadwick and Mark Luckhurst and others concerned residents says that this has happened across their borough, while councillors in Burnley say that they have also received hundreds of complaints from residents who have been affected.
Ms Luckhurst said: “These unscrupulous companies are installing huge masts to provide 5G internet at a much lower cost to themselves but generating maximum profits, regardless of the financial loss, distress and potential health hazard for local residents.” ....
