Are snow days melting away? Not all Hampton Roads students had off Thursday

Other divisions doing all virtual instruction right now, like Virginia Beach, Suffolk, and Portsmouth, decided to stay open and online.
The Norfolk School Division is also all online currently, but decided to close. Officials posted on Facebook that they were concerned high winds could cause power outages. Hampton and Newport News were already off for teacher workdays.
Are snow days melting away? Officials with the Virginia Department of Education said not yet.
“School divisions are required to provide 990 clock hours of instruction,” said VDOE Director of Media Relations Charles Pyle. “Can that be done virtually? Well, yes. What about snow days? It is not as simple as flipping a switch.” ....

Another round of wintry weather on the way for Hampton Roads
We could see a wintry mix of rain, sleet and snow this weekend. However, don t expect the winter wonderland you might have woken up to on Thursday.

NORFOLK, Va. Snow blanketed much of our region on Thursday for the first time this year and more could be on the way!
Hopes for another winter wonderland might be crushed though as this round of wintry weather likely won t bring as much snowfall as the first.
The 13News Now weather team predicts that the next system will move into the area very late Saturday evening and through Sunday morning. It s expected to funnel some warm air into the region and mix with the cold air that developed late in the week. ....

Parts of Suffolk got up to three inches of snow

Holly Christopher, a spokesperson for VDOT said they re-treated roads Thursday morning to prevent ice.
Thursday’s snowfall led to slushy road conditions. The snow blanketed grassy surfaces but melted on the pavement for much of the morning.
Naquan Robinson, who lives and works in Suffolk, said the snow was refreshing.
“It feels good out here. I like the wintertime, it looks pretty out here, the trees looking all nice. It doesn’t look as naked no more,” said Robinson.
Robinson said he was looking forward to a snowball fight after work.
“I hope it sticks for a little bit so I can play with my brothers and sisters,” said Robinson. ....
