Texas Students Disciplined for 'Slave Trading Game' That Auctioned Off Black Classmates – Your Black World

Texas parents are infuriated after discovering that some white students were “auctioning” and “trading” their Black classmates as slaves in an online game.
The game that was played among Daniel Ninth Grade Campus students in a Snapchat group priced Black students between $1-$100. A student posted “$1 for Chris” and “would be better if his hair wasn’t so bad.”
According to reports from local Aledo news sites, school officials were alerted of the game by a student.
District officials sent a letter to Aledo ISD parents a few weeks after being notified.
“There is no room for racism or hatred in the Aledo ISD, period. Using inappropriate, offensive, and racially charged language and conduct is completely unacceptable and is prohibited by district policy,” read the April 12 letter. ....

Messages shared on the Snapchat app at a school in Aledo said one student was worth a dollar and another 100 bucks , the New York Times reported.
The school district conducted an inquiry and found racial harassment and cyber bullying had occurred.
But some parents accused authorities of failing to respond appropriately.

A Texas school district announced this week that it had disciplined students who set prices on their classmates of color in a group Snapchat called “Slave Trade.”
According to The New York Times, a group of students at the predominantly white Don R. Daniel Ninth Grade Campus of Aledo High School participated in the chat, which included emojis of a police officer aiming a gun at a Black farmer in the name. The chat’s name was later changed to include a racial slur followed by the words “Farm” and then “Auction.” ....
