DRIVE, determination and care. Three words that leap to mind when describing Colchester Council executive director Pam Donnelly, who has been put forward for recognition as one of the Gazette’s Community Champions. Pam also holds a post on the north Essex NHS board and chairs One Colchester - a strategic and operational group that brings together key partners, to try and keep residents safe and well. Council leader Mark Cory was one of those to put her forward for praise. He said: “She’s an amazing leader and team builder. “Due to her drive, determination and care, she has built up a superbly strong team of blue light services, borough, county and voluntary sector partners, to act together as one, breaking down barriers and delivering solutions for our residents. ....

COLCHESTER Council has announced plans to invest more than £43 million in homes, community facilities and the town centre. The council’s Cabinet unanimously approved the authority’s capital strategy and capital programme, which will see it invest upwards of £43 million across the borough over the next few years. Further cash will also be brought in from outside sources to boost the capital programme, the total value of which is more than £50 million. About £40 million will be spent on the authority’s Housing Investment Programme, which will see hundreds of affordable homes built over the next few years. About £5.7 million in total, £900,000 from the council, will be spent creating new business units at the old bus garage in Queen Street whilst investment is also planned in the town centre with £671,000 allocated for the creation of St Nicholas Square and £130,000 for a new lift at Vineyard Street car park. ....
COUNCIL staff are set to visit supermarkets across Colchester to help ensure stores are Covid compliant. The leader of Colchester Council has written to supermarket chiefs across the borough urging them to step up Covid protections, with the borough at a very dangerous point in its fight against coronavirus. Praising the work already undertaken by supermarkets, Mark Cory (Lib Dem) has appealed for stores to step up further to limit the spread of coronavirus in the borough. The council s Covid marshals are set to visit supermarkets to ensure Covid rules are being met. Mr Cory said: I’m sure you know we are at a very dangerous point, with light around the corner but dark days still to come and a local hospital at breaking point. ....
